Actually Useful and practical advice

I have read a few books on this topic and most of them I didn't like. This one I truly enjoyed. It is practical useful advice, clearly written by someone who "lived it" and actually accomplished their goal. The language is clear, there is not a whole lot of the "finance talk" that makes these types of books tough to swallow. A good read, and a useful guide. I am going to get started immediately.

Personal journey to relate to, actionable plan to get started with a proven system.

"When you are deep in a hole, stop digging!" - This is the first gem of this book that captured my attention. It simply says the following: when you are in debt and want to get out, stop spending immediately to avoid getting yourself even deeper into debt.
The author shares with the reader a personal journey of getting into debt at a young age. Then as the author puts it, "life happened" - he got married, they had kids and at some stage they fell into debt as a direct result of living life but also getting lazy by failing to track their expenditures. More than once - how does that ring your bell? Very important lesson indeed.
Next, the author takes you on a journey of getting out of debt by starting off with the most important part of any personal finance plan - the budget or "Spending Plan" as Dave Ramsey refers to it. Not only does the author discuss each element within an effective budget in no-fluff detail but he also goes on to give you further and what I thought of being the gold nuggets of this book - tips and tricks to reduce your expenses.
The final step I personally enjoyed most within the book was applying a well-known tactic with his unique explanation of it and how he and his wife applied it to their personal "getting outta debt" journey.
I was honored to receive a review copy of the book but you are interested whether I will buy it, right?
Without a doubt. Although my rating of this book will only get to 4 stars because of a few minor formatting errors and perhaps a thing or two I'd do differently being a self-published author myself, if there was an option to rate a book at 4 and a half stars I'd do it without a blink of an eye as the content and value was not compromised at all.
Buy this book, commit yourself and get out of debt - it's that simple. It's a matter of how badly you want it.

Focused, Balanced, and Practical

Focused, Balanced, and Practical view of debt. How you got there, more importantly, WHY you got there, and how to get out of debt. Author had two debt experiences in his life one "self-inflicted" and the other caused by the (ever more frequent) financial strains of providing care for an elderly parent. Reviews the differences in the two and strategies on dealing with each situation. A truly worthwhile read.
