And a Pleasure to Read

Instruments of Pleasure is a collection of ten erotic short stories edited by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Like the assortment of toys, the stories vary from humorous and fun to thoughtful and emotional with one being just downright eerie.
The London O, by Justine Elyot, starts with fun and flirtatious dialogue, moves on to an adventure involving a pair of remote controlled knickers on the tube (remember, we're in London), and winds up with an al fresco resolution. A wild ride and great fun.
I enjoy stories of seduction and discovery, and that is what I found in The Inner Vixen, by Saskia Walker. A woman is surprised to discover a proclivity she had not suspected she had, her inner vixen, when it is seduced out into the open (at a club no less) by an admiring man.
The Apiary, by Megan Butcher, is one of the most unusual erotic pieces I've read in a while. Apprehension haunts the shadows, and at times reality is difficult to discern from hallucination. This story is short in length but captures a great deal of emotion in few words--like an expressionist painting.
Like This, by Rachel Kramer Bussel, has my vote for best story in the anthology. A woman's husband asks her to do one simple thing: show him how she plays with herself. The story explores her private, inner life and how much of it she can comfortably give up. The story shows the symbiosis of fantasy and physical sex in the process of making this new step.
There's fun and thoughtfulness, intrigue and insight, and plenty of sensuous, as well as feverish, sex strewn through this collection. If you're a reader more difficult to please than I, you might find a couple of stories you don't enjoy, but I'd be surprised if you didn't find a couple that you loved.

You'll Want to Buy Some New Toys for Yourself After Reading These Stories!

This collection of 10 stories explores the ways that sex toys can be used to both heighten sexual experiences and strengthen relationships. Each story included in this anthology is brilliantly written, emotionally honest, and shamelessly sexy.
The opening story, Rachel Kramer Bussel's "Like This", centers around a woman reluctantly letting her partner watch her masturbate with a vibrator. While the request may seem straightforward and simple to some readers, to many others its a quite alarming thing to be asked. Rachel boldly explores the unique, intense satisfaction that can be achieved only though self-pleasuring, as well as the privacy and intimacy of these personal acts, through her main character. This story was powerfully written and arousing.
In Justine Elyot's "The London O", a woman relieves her partner's jealousy over her previous lovers in a surprising - and incredibly sexy - way, as a pair of remote-controlled panties and a long commute on public transit lead to a hot, unplanned stop-over on their way home.
In Elizabeth Coldwell's "Princess", the main character's birthday celebration is given an exhilarating twist when her best friend blindfolds her and pushes her into a taxi cab with a complete stranger. Elizabeth uses the birthday girl's limited incoming information, hindered senses, and the contained, tight space she's found herself in, to heighten the mystery, intensity, and final climax of this intriguing, erotic encounter.
Strapped, by K. D. Grace, was my favourite story in this anthology. It is the type of story that is such a compelling read, it keeps you riveted to the page until the very last word. It is an exceptionally well-written and daring tale about a curious woman who, while posing as a man, picks up a guy at a gay bar. The story that unfolds between these characters will continually surprise you, and the final culmination is definitely not what you'd expect. Without giving away any of the plot points, I have to say that I have never read a more intense or arousing story involving a strap-on before.
Megan Butcher's story, "The Apiary", was a difficult story to read, from an emotional standpoint. In this piece, the author masterfully tackles a difficult issue in a frank and poignant way. This is unquestionably a sexy story. It is also a challenging story about forgiveness, strength and trust. Megan's frank writing style and unflinching descriptions deliver a powerful story that was still on my mind hours after I finished reading it.
The phrase "Don't judge a book by its cover" might ring a little more true after reading Louisa Harte's "Undercover Kink". In this fun, flirty story, a young woman's conservative office attire hides a kinky fetish, and the HOT undergarments to match! Louisa treats her readers to fantastically descriptive imagery as Natalie indulges her interest in both a latex basque and a cute store clerk while visiting her favorite lingerie shop.
In "The Inner Vixen", by Saskia Walker, a stranger recognizes and coaxes out a woman's inner vixen by approaching her and enticing her to participate in a kinky scene. In public! The band aren't the only ones putting on a performance for the audience at the club in this sexy, exhilarating story!
In "A Girl, Two Guys, and a Sex Toy", Kristina Wright crafts a story that is easy to relate to and lust after. Using rich descriptions, a simply scene, and overwhelming sensations, the author seductively tells the story of a single girl who is feeling lonely around the holidays, and decides to invite all her single friends over for New Year's Eve. During the course of the evening, two of her close male friends use a gag gift from one of her sympathetic girlfriends to help the main character forget about her recent breakup and ring in a very sexy New Year.
After a rough first attempt to incorporate a cane into your sex life, it takes courage and trust in yourself and your partner to ask for the cane again. Teresa Noelle Roberts fearlessly explores this theme in her story, "Getting it Right", and the outcome of her characters' second attempt at caning is rewarding in more ways than one.
The final story by Rachel Kramer Bussel, entitled "The Spanking Machine", is explosively erotic; it is by far the sexiest story in the collection. This chapter revolves around a professional woman who can't find the right willing partner to satisfy her intimate desires. She craves a hard, intense spanking, and hopes to finds the sexual release she has been missing with a spanking machine. Rachel creates a strong feeling of sexual tension in this story through her descriptions, particularly as the protagonist assembles the equipment herself. This creates a feeling of empowerment and control when the machine is finally ready that adds immensely to the climax of the final, eagerly anticipated, scene.
Overall, this is a very well-balanced and engaging anthology. Each of these stories will capture your attention from the first sentence and leave you panting for more at the end.

Toys both exotic and mundane

I enjoyed this collection of stories, with its range of toys from a mundane chair to an exotic pair of panties found in a London sex shop.
My favorite stories were The London O, about a lover with a huge competitive streak, and how he employed the exotic panties mentioned above to bring his lover to a state of quivering bliss while riding the London Underground; Princess, in which the toy in question is a plain blindfold, and The Spanking Machine, which is just what you think it would be about.
The only story I wasn't that into was The Apiary, which was the story that featured the chair. It just had a tone that didn't quite resonate with me. That still left nine stories of instrumental pleasure. Well worth the price of admission.
