About the Author
Jennifer Roberson is the author of the "Sword-Dancer Saga" and the "Chronicles of the Cheysuli", and collaborated with Melanie Rawn and Kate Elliott on the historical fantasy "The Golden Key", a finalist for the World Fantasy Award. She has also published three historical novels, and several in other genres. An exhibitor and breeder of Cardigan Welsh Corgis, she lives on acreage in Northern Arizona with eight dogs and two cats. My favorite out of the eight Cheysuli books

Jennifer Roberson has written a fantastic, sweeping series that spans generations. It is so much more than cliche sword and sorcery fantasy. It's about moral struggles, genocide, and prejudice. This installment is my favorite of the series because the main character, Aidan, is such an interesting person with an unusual lir (animal familiar). His inner struggle to find his place in the destiny of his people is so important that he is gently prodded along by several of the Cheysuli deities. The history of what has happened in the series so far is revisited in Aidan's encounters with the spirits of his long-dead royal kin.
One thing - don't even bother trying to read this book unless you have read the first six. Briefly: Book One, Shapechangers, is an enchanting introduction to the world of the Cheysuli; Book Two, The Song of Homana, was kind of slow and hard to get through for me, but thank goodness I did because the rest of the series is so fantastic; Book Three, The Legacy of the Sword, covers the struggle of Donal, the first Cheysuli Mujhar, to be accepted by the people he must rule; Book Four, Track of the White Wolf (which is my second favorite of the series), is about Niall, who hovers between the world of the Cheysuli and the Homanans without really being a true part of either one; Book Five, A Pride of Princes, is about the terrible experiences at the hands of the malevolent Ihlini that cause Niall's three sons to come of age; Book Six, Daughter of the Lion, switches gears and focuses on Keely, Niall's daughter, and her fight to accept the womanhood she's tried to ignore; Book Eight, A Tapestry of Lions, is the magnificent conclusion of the series with the fulfillment of the prophecy coming in an unexpected fashion and one of the best endings I've ever read in a fantasy series.

I read the Cheysuli Chronicles as an adolescent but find myself picking them up time and time again to reread them and delve back into the depths of this portion of Cheysuli History in Homana.
Flight of the Raven has been a long-standing favorite of mine. Aidan is an excellently developed character--he is probably my favorite out of all the Cheysuli royalty. Ms. Roberson once again manages to portray Aidan and the rest of the characters in a manner that forces you to empathize with them and share in their internal struggles, fears, hopes, and dreams. This novel stands apart from the rest of the Cheysuli Chronicles as it delves more closely into the mysteries of the Gods and is generally more spiritual. As with the rest of the Chronicles this novel pitts Cheysuli against Ihlini, but the struggle in this novel has the highest stakes I've seen yet and is definitely the most heart-wrenching. I recommend it to those who have read the rest of the series.

Extremely creative and well written.

I have read the whole series and highly recommend all of them. Ms. Roberson is creative and thought provoking. She accomplishes both with a beautiful writing style that evokes very real images of her characters, their personal triumphs and tragedies and that of the Cheysuli race. There is tragedy and triumph in abundance here from a fertile and well thought author and while eight books may seem like many, it won't after you have read the first one! Read and enjoy!

With no other choice, Emmy must travel deeper into this bizarre, dark world she is so unfamiliar with to find out why this is happening to her, and more importantly, how to stay alive.

A Great Book I Hungrily Devoured!

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised! From the first few sentences I was hooked, hungrily devouring the next few chapters and though life forced me to take a break, I was eagerly awaiting the next few lines.

The book starts in our world, the human world, but it quickly transports us into Methelwood, a magical town with people called 'crafters'. As soon as Emmy gets there she's reunited with the brother she hasn't seen in years, her mother is placed under arrest and Emmy agrees to a deal that could mean saving her mother, or trapping them all. It was all very hectic in the beginning, but I loved it!

As I mentioned before the book was engaging from the start, and I was immediately drawn into Emmy's life, wanting to know more. I loved learning about Methelwood and thought the aspect of the crafter's revering humans was very cool and not something I'd come across very often. I really liked how the crafter's were described and Emmy's immediate reaction to them was really human. She was confused and scared and a little repulsed by their appearance and I could really relate to that. She wasn't in awe or wondering at the magic around her. She had been thrust into this crazy, new environment full of people who were strange and different and I thought her reaction to it all was real: stunned, confused and a little afraid.

The romance was a little juvenile compared to what I've been reading recently, but seeing as the main character was only 15, I reckon it was spot on, at least in my experience. I loved that just because Emmy and Breckin shared a unique connection, they didn't just go and drop everything to be together.

I'm really intrigued to see if Emmy's father and/or Jesse (Emmy's best friend) make an appearance in the next book. Though I didn't get to see much of them, I did become fairly close to them and would love to see if they can some how worm their way back into the story.

I am really looking forward to seeing how the character's grow and develop in the next book, especially Emmy's love life as she gets older! The Keeper's Curse was an amazing story, a few tiny editing errors but I can easily overlook them as it was such a great story.

The hero, the heroine and the assasin

Emmy Winters snuck back into her home after going out with her best friend Jessie. Once there she is met by a burglar and a strange event happens. The event cause Emmy and her mother to leave their home for safety to travel to the town of Methelwood. Once there she was told by her mom that they have left the human world never see her father again and she could never go back. Emmy stunned and angry with her mom was confused shortly afterwards by her mother getting arrested. Emmy is force to live with her aunt and brother in a town that was strange beyond imagination. She was told by others that she was half human and half crafter.

Emmy has to adjust to leaving the only home she has ever known, being separated from her parents, going to a school to learn who she is, and meeting new friends. To top it all off she is beginning to hear a voice in her head frequently that she has only heard once when she was eleven.

Emmy literally runs into a boy name Breckin Crowder who cause her to have an accident. When he apologizes his voice stuns Emmy because it is literally the voice that she has been hearing lately. She hears his thoughts. Terrified of him Emmy goes to the hospital and she meets another mysterious boy name Cyrus who she later finds out is the arch enemy of Breckin who is trying to make Breckin life miserable.

Emmy tries to discover the mystery of why she is hearing this boy thoughts and once she discovers her connection to Breckin she realizes that both of their lives are in danger. Someone will stop at nothing to kill them. It is a race against time to find evidence of who wants them dead before it is too late.

I love the story line. It is freshly original in concept yet so believable it draws you in. What I love best about this story is the writer's talent to clearly the develop the characters and keep the fast pace of the plot at the same time. The author throws you in the middle of the story. I like this because the author assumes that the reader is intelligent enough to figure out the plot on his or her own.

The interaction between the characters are fascinating particular the interactions between Emmy and Breckin and even more so the interaction between Emmy and Cyrus. Which I found to be particularly delicious. Both men are challenging for Emmy to get to know especially with her wanting to be a psychologist when she becomes older and with both men being stand offish and distrusting in nature. With minimal words the author is adept at brilliantly capturing the emotions of each scene and situation between the characters.

Interesting concept but the writing was a little bland.

First thoughts and the story: So, where to start? I love fantasies...where anything is possible and new worlds are created. And look at that cover, it's gorgeous!! The premise sounded interesting, and by the time I was able to get to the book I had forgotten what it was about. However, it was on my list so I jumped right in. Well, I wish I had reread the blurb because that might have helped me understand what was going on. The book starts with Emmy being ripped from her home in the human world and transported to a world far away: Methelwood. She is so confused when she arrives there, and to top it off her mother is taken away and sent to prison. Emmy is left living with virtual strangers and promises to attend a new type of school and take a test in a short period of time. She soon starts to learn what powers she has, makes friends, enemies, and oh, she also hears a voice in her head. This is her journey of how she must fight to stay alive, and keep others alive too.

The MC: While Emmy said she was sad and depressed because she was removed from her home, it didn't really seem that way. She may have skipped a few meals, but before we knew it she had a job at the coffee shop with one of her new friends. She was an OK heroine, I think I would have liked her more in the human world, it was a little harder to connect with her in the orbs, but maybe she really was out of her element. When she was turned down by her counselor Willow to look into her dreams again, she thinks breaking and entering is the way to go. I kind of wanted to strangle her with the foolish and impulsive decisions. She did grow on me, as well as grow up and I liked her a lot more by the end.

The Rest of the Cast: The other characters were a mixed bag. None of them really stood out at first, but then Breckin finally did....and Emmy hated him but I couldn't understand why. It didn't add up for me, but she finally came around and saw that he really was a good guy. I also loved, loved, loved Cyrus. LOVED him. He was so real and totally my favorite. ;)

The Romance: It took a while but then I was like, "Ah! There it is!" It was pretty cool how Breckin and Emmy were the two complements to each other but yet they had other love interests. That was a great twist and made it quite interesting.

Surprises and the ending: There was so much suspicion as we knew Thoreoux had to have eyes in Methelwood. I was totally surprised by who it was! But in hindsight I should have totally seen it :) Oh, in case you didn't know I love to be surprised. The supposed assassin was definitely interesting. I had suspected he wasn't thrilled with his assignment from the beginning, but had no other choice I grew to like him more and more and more. The book ended in just the right way, all the loose ends tied up nicely.

Final thoughts: While the idea of the whole book was interesting and quite unique, the writing itself was a teensy bit one dimensional. I wanted to feel more of what I knew the characters should be feeling. It's one thing to write the words, but conveying the emotion is a much harder task. So, all in all the creativity was fantastic, but it was the execution that fell a little short for me. The last third of the book was the part I really enjoyed....the part before that was a lot of scene setting. For you fantasy lovers: if you are looking for something different this is a great book to add to your collection.

Freagarrach was evaluated over five years from 1995 and CueTen over three years (its entire lifespan) from 1996. This book makes the findings of these projects available to a wider readership, setting them in a wider discursive framework than is appropriate in a government report.

The authors identify the factors that made Freagarrach a more successful project than CueTen, arguing that an understanding of these factors is important in drawing general conclusions from the experience of the two projects, and that this is particularly the case because some of these factors have received little attention in recent discussions of 'what works' in community-based programmes for offenders.

This is a detailed and thorough study of work with juvenile offenders, which will be of particular value to those interested in less punitive approaches. It will be of interest both to practitioners and to academics in criminology, social policy and social work.

About the Author
David Lobley was former Research Officer in the Department of Applied Social Science, Lancaster University, UK. He was the researcher for the entire period of the CueTen evaluation and for the second half of the Freagarrach evaluation. He has also been the researcher on Scottish Office-funded projects on pilot witness support schemes and electronic monitoring of offenders, and is currently researching witness support services for the Scottish Executive. He was co-author of the published reports from all these projects. David Smith is Professor of Criminology at Lancaster University, UK, having been Professor of Social Work from 1993-2002. He directed all the research projects on which David Lobley worked, and has also recently researched and published on racist violence. He was recently a member of a Home Office-funded team researching the experiences black and Asian men have of the probation service and the criminal justice system.

WLVH radio station lives by the motto "WLVH, Lovehandles, where love is more than just a song." They proved it over the summer when two contestants, Mary and Ethan, ended up falling in love and planning to marry.

Peter "Punch" O'Brien can think of a thousand other places he'd rather be than at their wedding. WEddings tend to do weird things to a woman's mind. He's nervous about his date getting the wrong idea. But it's not his date who's affected. It's Judy, his on-air partner, who gets a wedding whammy. Something changes afterward, and he's not sure he likes it. Suddenly all he can think about is...kissing her. Since Judy Bently is the most annoying woman he's ever met, kissing her should be the furthest thing from his mind.

Judy is very much aware of her partner's Casanova-like charms. No way is she going to fall under his spell. Things might have changed between them, but despite what her heart is telling her, she's going to do her best to change their relationship back to a simply on-air partnership. Another delightfully funny tale by Holly Jacobs

When readers met WLVH's "Punch and Judy in the morning" in Pickup Lines, it seemed apparent there was something more between them than had yet been revealed. Well, fellow readers, if you suspected, you were right and Lovehandles is their story.

Peter "Punch" O'Brien and Judy Bently have been partners on their morning show for a year now and they drive each other crazy. Their bantering back and forth sends ratings high, though since listeners love the interaction between the two. Something has changed however in the past few months, being noticed for the first time at the wedding of Ethan and Mary, the contestants from the contest WVLH sponsored over the summer, who found love in the cab of a truck.

Now suddenly things are not the same for Punch and Judy as they discover maybe they feel more for each other then just camaraderie and friendship... and business. Peter was burned years ago in a relationship with a coworker so has sworn off getting involved with women that he works with. Judy believes no man could ever be attracted to her, especially someone as incredibly handsome as Peter. But as sparks continue to fly and things heat up, will they discover happiness with each other and prove once again that at WLVH, "love is more then just a song?"

Peter and Judy are total opposites in everything they think and do, grating on each other's nerves all the while the friendship between them grows. Judy is a simple woman with simple hopes and dreams, never asking for anything spectacular. She moves through her life, content in the path she has chosen, even if she sometimes wonders whether she'll ever turn the head of a man who appeals to her. Peter is drop-dead gorgeous, full of charm that women of all ages can't resist. He's perfectly happy cruising through relationships on a very regular basis, never developing anything beyond a casual fling. When Judy starts to realize there is more between them then just friendship, it scares her because she is a "forever" kind of woman and Peter is a "just for now" kind of man. As readers watch their relationship grow and change, they'll cheer them on to discovering that what they really want... and need... is each other.

As always in a book by Holly Jacobs, humor abounds and brings joy and laughter to the hearts of the readers. One will laugh out loud at the antics of these two lovebirds and at the crazy events their boss has them participating in to boost ratings even more. Sparkling wit and sometimes quirky dialogue keeps one reading through the end of the story, just waiting to see what Peter and Judy will be up to next.

Secondary characters are always strong additions to any story by Ms. Jacobs, and this book is no exception. There is even a sweet side story that develops throughout the book, with a romance brewing for a couple of them. That additional sub-plot adds depth to the story, rounding it out to an even more compelling story.

If you want a feel good light read this is great

If you want a feel good light read this is great. I call these "Pop Corn" books. Once I read one I have to read them all. Quick read and light humor and a feel good ending. Some days that's just what you need!
