“Your hair is divine, Princess Coralina!” said Luxley. “Black as crows yet lustrous as moonlight on a frozen sea.”

Coralina smiled and accepted her goblet. Luxley was scrumptious tonight. Time for a little stroll out of doors. She’d take him to Love Lake and, after feigning reluctance, let him kiss her.

Coralina turned away with a sorrowful sigh.

“Whatever is wrong, my beauty?” said Luxley, right on cue. Coralina looked down at her goblet, tracing the rim with her finger. “Oh... it’s nothing.”

“Dear lady, you must tell me.” Luxley set down his drink to clasp her hand in both of his. Coralina blinked away tears she didn’t have. “I - I was thinking... how lovely it would be to walk in the moonlight.”

“Why don’t we!” Luxley cried joyously.

Coralina shook her head. “It’s too perilous. There are rumors of dangerous bandits in the kingdom. Maelyn forbade going out after dark.”

“But my precious princess, I will come with you!” said Luxley. “And all the world’s villains shall not touch you while I am near.”

Coralina lifted large eyes to his face. “Well... if you promise to keep VERY close to me.”

I read both book one and two tonight

I finished the first and immediately purchased fhe second. I could not put either of them down. The main chracters in both books, but especially this one, were very well developed and both princesses grew subtly but noticeably throughout their story. Anita Valle created an amazing portrayal of Coco. I wish I had not found this series until it was concluded. It will be very difficult to wait for the next book.

you want to hate her...

...and sometimes you do! But Princess Coralina does shallow with the best of them (blissfully unaware that she IS), until you get toward the end and realize that you've watched a true character growth. So the twist ending is all the more wrenching, perhaps for its realism.

This story doesn't have the implied Happily Ever After that Maelyn's alluded to. But it does continue the idea that the stories of all 9 princesses is in fact one story.

I did like Coralina's story and I encourage that it be read, so that all Happily Ever Afters (in other stories/tales/what-have-you) taste that much sweeter. I can't wait to see what peripherally happens to Coralina, during her sisters' stories.

Disappointing

Disappointed with this one. Really liked the first book that lead me to purchase this one, thinking it is a great series. However, I could not get into this one. Didn't like the main character, which is probably why do not like it. That colours it all for me. She writes well, but I COULD not connect. Put me off the series, sadly.

About the Author
John Calvin (1509-64), the French theologian and pastor of Geneva, was one of the principal 16th-century Reformers.

Calvin was born on 10 July 1509, in Noyon, about sixty miles north-east of Paris. His father Gérard Cauvin held legal office in the service of the bishops of Noyon, and wanted his son to enter the church. He used his influence to obtain a chaplaincy at Noyon Cathedral when Calvin was 11, the income helping to fund his education. The young man was privately tutored, before being sent to Paris at the age of 14 to study theology at the University. He first attended the Collège de la Marche, then the Collège de Montaigu, where he received the equivalent of his Master of Arts in 1528 at the unusually young age of 17. Some of Calvin s instruction was given by the brilliant Latin scholar Mathurin Cordier, and he obtained a first-class education.

I'm a fan of this series, and I really like what they've done in terms of translating the books to the manga format. I think this book is a nice, solid addition...but I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous three mainly due to how they've decided to arrange the 'chapters.' I was assuming they'd wrap up 'School's Out Forever' in this volume, as the first book, 'The Angel Experiment' only took up two manga volumes. They did not--the book will end in the next volume, which bothers me some. Aside from that nitpicky point, the book is good. The artwork is still top-notch, in my opinion, and doesn't suffer the typical lapse in quality. If you're a fan of this series, I recommend this volume, but don't be surprised if you're upset with the 'ending!'

"Boy, you just can't kill people like you used to."

Okay, before I start, I just wanted to say that the quote in the cut wasn't mentioned in the manga. But it was a quote in the actual book said by Fang. I just wanted to start out the review in a unique way. Okay now, Moving On!

Things that I enjoyed about the manga:

THE AWSOMESAUCE COVER: Need I say more? Nudge looks adorable on the cover, even though her eyes aren't gray.

Iggy. Iggy? Iggy!: There's a bucket-load of Iggy angst in this manga(as in the original book) and I have to say I loved it. For all you who didn't read the actual book, *SPOILER ALERT*. I loved the part when Ig found his parents. I swear, he had me crying. And, plus, he's still sexy, as usual :)

The Design: The way the artist drew these characters were fabulous. Its like they actually look the same they do in real life...just they're eyes aren't that big. My favorite character desingn is Nudge's, though because she looks exactly like how I interpret her to be.

Fax: I'm not usually a die hard Fax fan, but this book brought out the couple in an whole new light. They just looked so freaking cute together.*SPOILER ALERT* Especially the part when Fang flicks Max's head...I cracked up at that.

Max Ride: I dunno, I just really liked her in this manga. Ever since the latest Max Ride book (Angel: A Maximum Ride Book, for those who haven't heard) she kind of just threw me off. But I guess since revisiting her in her old days, I fell back in love with her.

Page 179: There's something there that just made me laugh. If you get the manga, check it out.

Thing's that annoyed me:

How the book ended: I thought that the booked ended a bit too early. And the whole book was just short in period. I would've really loved it if it ended at the very end of 'School's Out-Forever', but then again the ending was still perfect.

Fang, as usual: I think its just the fact that Fang annoys the living crap out of me. But besides that, he looked Chinese in the magma. And he's...Fang. Yeah, that sums it up....okay, so his character really wasn't THAT bad, but like I said, I just don't really like him that much. He bothers me.

How the last 40 pages are pretty much dedicated to 'Witch and Wizard': So, basically, the last pages of this volume had a ridiculously long 'preview' of the new boring Witch and Wizard manga. Hated the book, so obviously I wasn't too happy about this showing up.

So all in all, a really good manga. It was WAY better than the its previous one, by far.

Another excellent addition to James Patterson's Maximum Ride résumé

Many discoveries are made in this volume of Maximum Ride. A couple of them are good, and the rest ... no so good, and one of them comes when Max is right in the middle of a date! Wait - Max had a date? Yes, she met a nice boy in the previous volume named Sam who wanted to take her out. Still, regardless of how nice Sam is to her, she refuses to soften, as she feels the entire Flock is, due to living with Anne like normal humans.

Soon, Max's haunting image of herself as an Eraser becomes too much to keep hidden any longer and she tells Fang everything. He comforts her in her time of need - what a guy! As the two investigate a lead they happened to come upon, they find a woman who is the spitting image of Iggy, possibly his birth mother. Around the same time, Iggy and Gazzy come upon some startling information. Until two years ago, their school was an insane asylum, The Standish Home for Incurables. The name says it all, doesn't it? I bet the principal of this school used to be a part of the asylum - it would explain his hatred for some certain students.

After giving it a great deal of thought, Max brings the Flock to an abandoned bat cave (not to be confused with Batman's favorite hiding place) to voice her concerns to them - that they must leave Anne's place, lest they become soft. However, due to the overwhelming desire of several of its members to have a real Thanksgiving dinner, she folds and settles for leaving after that. Following a very peaceful holiday, the entire Flock escorts Iggy to his parents' house for an old fashioned family reunion.

Good times don't last, and the situation starts going downhill fast on many fronts. Treachery is afoot, and it approaches from all sides, so the Flock is in for the tensest times of their young lives. But if Max is destined to save the world in the future, she must stay vigilant. The question is, CAN she stay vigilant with all the chaos happening all around her? And what will happen when a clone of Max shows up?

Action, drama, suspense, intrigue and comedy collide to make another excellent addition to James Patterson's Maximum Ride résumé.
