Timeless commentary - good balance of depth and readability

Evidence of the timelessness of Calvin's commentary on Isaiah is the degree that a more modern scholar, E J Young, quotes Calvin and builds on his words. Unlike Matthew Henry's commentary, which is more thematic, Calvin goes verse by verse hitting on themes, but also explaining particular words in the context of their original meaning and intent. He also does well keeping Isaiah grounded in old covenant Israel while also tying it to the church universal.
