About the Author
Jorge Antonio Renaud was born in New Mexico and has lived in Texas most of his life. A former copy editor for the Austin-American Statesman and the Waco Tribune-Herald, Renaud is a contributing columnist for Hispanic Link News Service. His op/ed columns have appeared in newspapers across the country. A former editor of the ECHO, the Texas Prison newspaper, Renaud served time for armed robbery. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University.

Holding a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Sam Houston State University, Jorge Antonio Renaud is also journalist, the former editor of the ECHO (the Texas Prison newspaper), and a convicted felon serving time for armed robbery. Jorge drew from his own life experiences to write Behind The Walls, a practical, no-nonsense guide written specifically for friends and family members of Texas prison inmates. Offering basic information about the Texas prison system, the daily lives of prisoners, the importance of family contact to perpetuate hope for a better life outside of prison, and an objective expose of the system itself, make Behind The Walls compelling reading for far more than just its target audience. This is an excellent book which seriously needs to be updated

This is an excellent book which seriously needs to be updated. I direct a prison ministry that reaches out to inmates across the country. Many are in Texas so it was important to me to learn more about the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and I definitely did. I made some changes in what we do because of information in this book. I would recommend it to anyone interested in knowing more or understanding what's happening with their family members.
